Talk Session On Revolutionizing Recommendations With AI-Powered Language Models

The online talk session, "Revolutionizing Recommendations with AI-Powered Language Models," organized by IEEE SPS SBC RIT, was held on 11th October 2024. Led by Prof. Seema Safar, Assistant Professor at RSET, the session explored how AI models like GPT are transforming recommendation systems across industries such as e-commerce, entertainment, and social media. With 50 attendees, the event provided insights into the technical workings, real-world applications, and ethical considerations of AI-driven recommendations. Participants praised the session for its clear explanations, practical examples, and valuable insights, leaving them better equipped to understand and apply these concepts in their respective fields.

The IEEE SPS SBC RIT celebrated IEEE SPS Day on 20th May 2024 with a cake-cutting ceremony held at the EEE Seminar Hall. Circuit Forge

The "Circuit Forge" Arduino Workshop, organized by IEEE SPS SBC RIT in collaboration with IEEE IAS SBC RIT and VIDYUTH, was held on 15th March 2024 at the Electrical Department Seminar Hall, RIT. Deep Learning

The "Deep Learning" workshop, organized by IEEE SPS SBC RIT in collaboration with PROMINENCE (ECE Department Tech Fest), was held on 21st March 2024 at the ECE Department Seminar Hall, RIT. The event, led by speaker Stephin Sheby (S6 ECE student), provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of deep learning concepts, including neural networks, CNNs, and RNNs, along with their applications in image recognition, natural language processing, and autonomous systems. Essay Writing Competition

IEEE SPS SBC RIT organized an online essay writing competition from 5th to 8th March 2024 to celebrate International Women's Day, focusing on the theme "Women in STEM." The event aimed to inspire participation, recognize women's contributions to STEM and encourage more girls to pursue careers in these fields. Kalyani S Kumar from S3 ECE, RIT Kottayam, won the competition and received a cash prize of Rs 200. The event was well-received by attendees for its inspiring theme and well-organized format.

Crossword Quest aimed to provide participants with a fun way of showcasing their knowledge of the latest advancements in technology. It was an online crossword competition conducted by IEEE SPS SB RIT. The competition had a technical crossword based on the latest advancements in technology. Participants were given a link to access the crossword competition through the Instagram story of IEEE SB RIT. Winners were awarded a prize pool of Rs.500.

Introduction to Verilog

The online session aimed to provide participants with a foundational understanding of Verilog, a hardware description language used for designing circuits. It helped attendees gain a deeper understanding of hardware description language concepts and Verilog syntax and apply that knowledge to design and simulate digital circuits. The event was handled by Mr. Krishnanunni B from S4 ECE and the mentor was able to help participants lay the foundation for Verilog. The Introduction to Verilog session was successful in helping many students to understand the basics of Verilog and they got an interest in Verilog. After the session, participants were able to create basic digital designs, understand simulation results and start working more on Verilog.

DEVISE: A Complete Walkthrough on IEEE and SPS

IEEE SPS SBC RIT and IEEE SB ASIET collaborated to organize an online membership development session. The objective of this session was to increase and improve the membership of the Signal Processing Society while also highlighting its importance. Mr. Salih Yousaf, MD Chair of IEEE SPS Kerala Chapter, led the session. The event provided participants with a platform to connect with fellow members, exchange ideas, and form new connections. During the session, the benefits of joining the signal processing society were discussed, and as a result, a large number of new members were attracted to our society. It was a well-organized and engaging event that allowed individuals to learn more about our society and its activities. The event showcased various ongoing initiatives and highlighted the positive impact that our society has had on the community. Attendees were impressed with the dedication and commitment of our members and were eager to join us in our mission to make a difference in people's lives. Overall, the event was an excellent way to connect with like-minded individuals and strengthen our community. On October 1, 2024, IEEE CS SBC RIT, in collaboration with IEEE RAS SBC RIT, conducted an awareness session on IEEE Xtreme 18.0 by Gayathri MS, ambassador for IEEE Xtreme 18.0. The session provided insights into the 24-hour global coding competition, covering its format, rules, and problem-solving strategies. Flutter Workshop

IEEE CS SBC RIT, in collaboration with IEEE SB MITS, IEEE SB MANGALAM, and IEEE SB KIDANGOOR, hosted a workshop on "Flutter: From Zero to Mastery" as part of INFORMATIKA 4.0 on August 22, 2024. The session aimed to introduce students to Flutter’s capabilities in mobile app development, equipping them with the skills to build efficient applications. Led by Rohit Babu George (Chair, IEEE CS SB MITS) and Bhavan S (Webmaster, IEEE SB MITS), the workshop covered Flutter app implementation, navigation, and routing techniques With around 65 students in attendance, the session was highly interactive, encouraging engagement and discussions. Attendees found the workshop insightful and well-structured, gaining a solid foundation in Flutter and its applications in mobile app development.

IEEE CS SBC RIT conducted a Web Development session on July 5, 2024, to help students build a strong foundation in website creation and debugging. The session was led by Alvin Varghese, Software Engineer at Litmus7, who provided introductory lessons in front-end and back-end development. Participants were introduced to key web technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and backend frameworks. The session also covered best practices in web development, ensuring students gained a structured understanding of the field. A virtual session on GitHub Mastery was conducted by IEEE CS SBC RIT on April 27, 2024, to familiarize students with Git and GitHub. San Mathew (S6 CSE) guided participants through the fundamentals of version control, collaboration techniques, and GitHub’s key features. The session covered branching, merging, and efficient code management, helping students understand the significance of GitHub in software development. Around 70 students attended, gaining practical knowledge to enhance their coding workflow.

Adobe Photoshop Workshop

On April 13, 2024, IEEE CS SBC at RIT launched its ‘Tour of Design Tools’ Webinar series with a debut episode focusing on Adobe Photoshop by Dilshith TS of S6 CSE. The event, held via Google Meet, aimed to provide attendees with basic knowledge of photo editing and poster-making using Adobe Photoshop. The session covered essential tools and templates available in Photoshop, demonstrating how to manipulate images creatively. Attendees learned about image resolution, masking images, font usage, and layering techniques. The workshop helped students to familiarize themselves with image editing and helped them to understand fundamental design principles, colour theory, and composition techniques.

The Web Development and Career Guidance event organised by IEEE CS SB RIT as part of IEEE Day, was a resounding success. The event aimed to introduce 9th and 10th-grade school students of MGM High School, Pampady, to the world of web development and offer insights into potential tech careers. It provided a unique opportunity for young minds to explore the technology industry and gain hands-on experience. The event began with an introduction to web development, highlighting its significance and role in shaping the digital world. Students gained a clear understanding of web development's importance in our daily lives. The practical segment of the event proved to be a hit among the students. Guided by an experienced mentor, Mr. Vyshnav C J, students created their web pages, sparking excitement and curiosity. During the Q&A session, students enthusiastically asked questions about tech careers, educational paths, and the skills required. Students also learned about the IEEE and its role as a global technology leader.

'Zero to Mastery' was an introductory Python programming workshop held by IEEE CS SB RIT in collaboration with IEEE RAS SBC RIT as part of the IEEEXtreme. The workshop provided participants with a foundational understanding of Python programming, covering basic syntax, data types, and control structures. The event was conducted by Mr. Nikhil Krishnan, S6 CSE and focused on creating a simpler project in Python. The workshop was well-attended, and the students found the session to be very interesting and informative. Bug Bash

The IEEE Bug Bash was a debugging competition that aimed to improve participants' problem-solving abilities and debugging skills. The event was part of Informatyka 3.0 and was held on September 24, 2023, from 8:00 to 9:00 PM in an online mode. It was organized by IEEE SB RIT, IEEE SB CEK, and IEEE SB Mangalam in collaboration with the IEEE CS Kerala Chapter. The competition was hosted on the Hackerrank platform and featured a series of programming challenges with various types of bugs, ranging from basic syntax errors to intricate logic issues. Participants received source code to debug, and the competition had multiple rounds with progressively more complex challenges. The collaborative environment of the competition fostered knowledge sharing, and the competitive element added motivation and engagement. Participants appreciated the networking opportunities with industry professionals for their insights and potential career connections.

Web Development and Career Guidance

The IEEEXtreme Awareness Session was held on September 19th, 2023, to inform and engage students about the IEEEXtreme Programming Competition, a global 24-hour online programming competition for engineering students by IEEE. The event was organized by IEEE CS SB RIT in collaboration with IEEE RAS SBC RIT and was attended by 50 students. Mr. San Mathew, and IEEEXtreme 17.0 Ambassador, led the session, which aimed to create enthusiasm, and a sense of camaraderie, and equip attendees with the knowledge and tools needed to participate successfully in the competition. The session served as a starting point for students interested in the world of competitive programming and problem-solving and aimed to foster a competitive spirit and passion for problem-solving.

Tour Of Design Tools: Adobe Premiere Pro

The objective of this workshop was to teach participants how to use this professional video editing software for post-production. The event was led by Mr. Abdul Rahim K, the Chair of IEEE RAS RIT, who shared advanced techniques and workflows in Adobe Premiere Pro. The session equipped attendees with essential skills and knowledge to use the software efficiently and effectively for their projects. The workshop covered basic interface navigation, video editing tools, timeline management, adding effects and transitions, audio editing, and exporting finished projects. Participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the software's features and capabilities, as well as valuable insights into industry-standard practices for video editing and production. The Adobe Premiere Pro session was executed successfully, delivering valuable insights into using the software effectively. The presenter's expertise, engaging delivery, and interactive approach contributed to a successful learning experience.

GitHub Mastery

Github Mastery was conducted by IEEE CS SBC RIT to provide information to students about Git and GitHub. The event was online and open to all. The session initially started with a detailed explanation of the various features of Git enabling students to track the changes to their code, maintain a history of previous versions, to create multiple branches of their code, which can be worked on separately and merged back together later. It goes into more detail about the features and tools available on GitHub. This included learning how to create a repository, make changes, collaborate with other users, track changes made by other users, review code, provide feedback, and manage merge conflicts. The event was handled by Mr. Anandu S from S6 CSE and the mentor was able to teach the participants to lay the foundation to become a GitHub Master. The GitHub session was a valuable learning experience for developers and collaborators, fostering better collaboration, code management, and software development practices. It contributed to a more knowledgeable and empowered developer community and promoted the growth of open-source projects and collaborative software development. The Github Mastery session was successful in helping many students understand the basics of Git and GitHub and provided invaluable resources for developers of all levels of expertise.

Experience Sharing

The session was organized by IEEE CS SBC RIT, IEEE CS SBC AJCE, and IEEE CS SBC MACE. The focus of the session was to provide students with personal experiences from mentors on their route to success. Mr. Abhijith K, the CEO of Aion Creative Wings and the Best Student Volunteer of the Kochi Subsection 2019 conducted the session to share his experience with IEEE and the skills and benefits he gained. The session focused on topics such as the benefits of being a member of the IEEE Computer Society, career growth opportunities with IEEE, technical opportunities, and other startup plans and queries. Mr. Abhijith shared with students his experiences on how IEEE helped him in his professional development and the impact it had on his career. The session was recorded for future reference and shared with students who would like to know more about IEEE. Sharing experiences helped individuals build connections and understand a wider aspect of opportunities gained with the help of IEEE. The session promoted collaboration, continuous learning, and advancing knowledge and skills within the computer science community. By fostering a culture of sharing, the CS Society strengthens its impact on the field and its ability to address the challenges and opportunities faced by computer science professionals globally.

Membership Development Session

IEEE CS SBC RIT, IEEE CS SBC AJCE, and IEEE CS SBC MACE organized a session on the Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society Scholarship and Richard E. Merwin Scholarship as a part of the CS ByteBoost Membership Development Program. The panel discussion featured Ms. Reema Shaji, CEO of IEDC MESCE and Global Ugrad Scholar, and Ms. Ann Rose Cherian, Associate Consultant at Informatica and IEEE SYP Kochi Coordinator. During the engaging panel discussion, students were provided with information regarding the criteria, transcripts, and eligibility. The mentors shared their valuable experience with the students, providing them with opportunities to learn, connect and advance their careers or academic goals. The interactive peer-to-peer discussion proved constructive and gave students a chance to learn more about these benefits, how to access them and use them to their fullest potential.

As part of Women’s Day, IEEE RAS SBC RIT in collaboration with IEEE WIE AG RIT, organized an empowering talk session on the topic, ‘Opportunities for Women in the Field of Robotics’. Blogging Competition: Women in STEM

To foster a culture of learning and collaboration while encouraging individuals to share their knowledge and expertise on the topic of Women in STEM, IEEE WIE AG RIT collaborated with IEEE WIE AG CECTL to host an inspiring blogging competition.. The competition, held on September 17th, 2023, ignited the sparks of creativity and linguistic flair among participants, creating a unique platform to disseminate valuable information within the community. Through active participation, the competition unravelled the chapters of this compelling event, and participants reflected on its impact on both themselves and the broader community of language enthusiasts. The winner, Mr. Alwin Reju from RIT Kottayam, showcased his passion and insights in writing through a wonderful blog and was declared the winner. In conclusion, the competition successfully identified aspiring language enthusiasts with great dedication and creativity. Their passion for writing and advocacy for gender diversity in STEM was truly commendable.

On May 15th, 2023, the IEEE RFID Student Council Kerala Section and IEEE WIE AG RIT collaborated on the third session of the She Technia Talk series, on the topic of 'Metaverse'. Tech It Out

IEEE WIE AGs of RIT Kottayam, CE Kidangoor and CE Perumon joimtly conducted Tech It Out, an Online Coding Competition in association with WIEvacity Week 2021 on 6th may 2021. The competition was conducted on Hackerrank. Questions are added at regular intervals and participants will be notified about the same. To ensure fair play, some guidelines were set to stick on to. Participants are ranked by score and according to the rank winners are selected. Sidharth Ajithkumar (RIT Kottayam) got the First and Anjana K T (GEC Thrissur) got second prize.

ARDUINO BOOTCAMP

In order to introduce open-source electronics prototyping to the young minds, an Arduino Boot Camp was organised. The Camp was conducted in 4 days, starting from the 1st of May to the 4th. Each day, a new concept regarding developer boards was introduced, On the 4th day, a project was given to the students for completion. The event served as a kickstarter for the students to explore the fields related to robotics and programming, and eventually mould them into successful engineers.

As part of WiEvacity WiE week 2021 celebrations, WiE of IEEE SB RIT together with IEEE SB CEK and IEEE SB College of Engineering, Perumon conducted MAGNAVOX, a Doodling Competition. We started collecting entries from April 30th, 2021 and collected till May 8th, 2021. The entries were collected through Google Forms. We provided prizes worth Rs.1000 to the winners. Certificates of participation were given to all participants. We selected volunteers from our college and their support was quite appreciable. The best three among the entries were selected.

P2P Learning is a series of peer to peer learning sessions. The first episode of P2P Learning, commenced on 3rd April 2021 and spanned over seven days. The winners were selected based on the results of both the quiz and debugging. Cash prizes were also awarded to the winners.

VS CODE 101 was a webinar on Visual Studio Code Workflow. The webinar was hosted on Google Meet platform on 27 December 2020 from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The session, handled by Irene Anna Kurien of S3 CSE, walked the attendees through the various keyboard shortcuts that can be used to increase productivity, how to edit the VSC settings, use the extension marketplace and the inbuilt source control feature. R.E.X - Robotics EXperience program - RAS chapter initiative grant event

A month-long virtual robotics specialization program was organised by RAS SBC which included specialization and interactive sessions on: ML, AR, IOT and 3D printing. Coupled with a Virtual IV of Kerala Startup Ecosystem, the series provided a platform for participants to hone their technological skills. The series provided enriching sessions from TensorFlow User Group Thrissur, MakerGram, INFUSORY, Inker Robotic Solutions and Kerala Startup Mission.

A webinar to provide an introduction to Drone Technology was conducted as a 2-hour session. The speaker was Mr. Abraham George M, founder of Drone Racers Kerala. About 61 participants from all across Kerala attended the program. The topics covered include: Working principles of drone, Government license on Drones, Component selection for drone making etc.

IEEE PES SBC RIT conducted 'Little Scientist Challenge' for all engineering students with an aim to introduce the kids to the world of science. The children performed various science experiments with things available at home with the help of these students .

Technical Ideathon

A Mother's day special Technical ideathon was organized from 8th May to 10th May, 2020, jointly by IEEE RAS SB RIT and WIE Affinity Group of IEEE SB RIT with the theme- 'Addressing homemaker's woes through technology'. About 9 teams participated in the event and submitted their solutions to combat various challenges faced by a homemaker by means of appropriate technology.

IEEE RAS SBC RIT organized the first edition of Simcon, a 24 hour online Arduino hackathon on 5th May. As a result of keen competition among 19 participants, IRENE ANN ZACHARIAH of S4 ECE emerged as the winner. The hackathon enhanced the programming and circuit designing skills of participants.

As the first episode of E-Index series, the students of Computer Society were asked to make a report of an interview with an Engineer in the field of software. A total of 6 entries were collected from various students.

Codeathon

Codeathon was a 12 hour long coding contest organised as part of Women in computing on 14th April from 8am - 8pm. Questions were added each hour totalling to 9 questions. Merin Babu of 2nd year CSE secured the first position, followed by Sreelakshmi NS of 3rd year CSE at the second position and Irene Anna Kurien of 1st year CSE at the third position

The contest had six questions and Bivin Varkey Varghese of third year CSE secured the first position followed by Arvind Ram of first year CSE at the second position and Shivani Sanjay of second year CSE at the third position.
